News : Free Physio for children with disabilities

We are now offering a free physiotherapy service for children in Lancashire aged 0-18 who have a neurological or genetic condition, an acquired brain injury, or life limiting condition which affects their movement.

Emily Dalton has joined the charity as a full time physiotherapist. She qualified in 2006 with a BSc in Physiotherapy from the University of Salford. Before taking up her post at The Legacy Rainbow House, Emily worked within the NHS as a paediatric physiotherapist, for the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Chorley, and with stroke victims.

Louise Sumner, Director of Services at The Legacy Rainbow House says,

“We know and can see the benefits that regular physiotherapy brings for children with restricted movement. Many parents whose children attend our services are keen that their children have intensive physiotherapy to improve their physical capabilities, but the NHS physiotherapy services are so stretched they are not able to offer such intensive physiotherapy to children in Lancashire. This is why we decided to offer a service ourselves.”

The need for additional paediatric physiotherapy services across the county will be assessed over the coming year and the role will be evaluated so that the charity can calculate the impact of the new service.

The new service can be offered at the setting your child attends, at The Legacy or even at home, depending on travel times.

If your child would benefit from intensive physiotherapy or if you would like to know more about the service please contact Emily Dalton at The Legacy Rainbow House on 01704 823276 for an application form.

All physiotherapy services will be offered on a first come first served basis.
