News : Paralympian to become our Patron
Elizabeth Simpkin, the paralympian swimming sensation is to become a Patron of a charity for children with disabilities, The Legacy Rainbow House. Elizabeth, aged 15, made her GB debut at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing and is aiming to compete in the 2012 Olympics in London.
Joe Mawdsley, Founder and CEO of The Legacy Rainbow House said,
“Elizabeth has already achieved some phenomenal things in her life and she’s still only 15! As a Patron of our charity she will be a great role model for the children here and an ambassador for disability. She clearly demonstrates that disability is not a barrier to success.”
Last year she won silver in the 100M back stroke and bronze in the 100 M butterfly at the European championships in Iceland and helped the GB relay team win gold and break the world record for the 4X100 medley relay in Brazil.
And in the Beijing Olympics, Elizabeth finished a fantastic 5th in the 100m backstroke and 6th in the 100m butterfly.
Elizabeth is hotly tipped to win a medal in London 2012, she says,
“I am looking forward to being a patron for The Legacy Rainbow House and its children, so that I can show that disabilities do not build boundaries; and with help and dedication we can climb over obstacles and succeed more than anyone ever expects.”
